What is your idea of adventure travel? Is it to climb the Himalayas, or trek to the base of Mount Everest. Maybe, discover the silk route in China? Scuba dive in the sunny Caribbean, or sail across the Atlantic, or around the world? Or, just stroll through a local market in France, Spain or Asia, shop for carpets in Casablanca?
You can either have a dull travel experience or turn the simplest travel into an adventure. Adventure travel is not what your friends or co-workers did, it is how you see the world. So get out there and make new friends as you do what you enjoy doing while traveling.

Read before traveling
This is a book worth reading - Solo Traveler: Tales and Tips for Great Trips by Lea Lane.
Although the book has received mixed reviews I still recommend reading it.
Lea Lane managers to help the reader dispel with the fear of traveling alone. She covers such topics as:
• Dining alone
• Solo-friendly lodgings
• Socializing with locals, even finding romance along the way
• Traveling with pets (important topic for those of us with pets)
• Smart ways to save and spend
Lea Lane is an award-winning journalist.

Travel Quotes
A few of my favourtie travel quotes, pick one or a few, better yet find your own and follow your travel dreams.
"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."... Mark Twain
"If you reject the food, ignore the customs, fear the religion and avoid the people, you might better stay at home." ... James Michener
"When preparing to travel, lay out all your clothes and all your money. Then take half the clothes and twice the money." ... Susan Heller
"For my part, I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel's sake. The great affair is to move." ... Robert Louis Stevenson
"Traveling is almost like talking with men of other centuries." ... René Descartes
"Travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living." ... Miriam Beard
"Too often travel, instead of broadening the mind, merely lengthens the conversations." ... Elizabeth Drew
"If you look like your passport photo, you're too ill to travel." ... Will Kommen

Last minute summer travel plans
Last minute summer travel plans means last minute travel deals.
Some information for finding those last-minute travel deals:
Be specific, check hotel, air, and package deals.
If you travel on the weekend, depart Thursday, Friday, or Saturday; return Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday.
Low flight fares are usually released mid-week.
To obtain the lowest airfares a Saturday night stay may be required.
Tip: If you have decided to visit Las Vegas, the lowest rates will be found on midweek travel, that's Monday through Thursday.

Different types of travel
Wish to travel but do not know what to do, here are some ideas that will get your travel plans in gear.
Adventure Travel: Go beyond the normal everyday experiences and travel somewhere you have not been to previously.
Historical Travel: Enjoy a cultural/historical vacation. Learn about famous historical people, discover the ambition, success, failure and tragedy buried in the past. Explore ancient art, architecture and ruins.
Leisure Travel: Take a break, spend a day at a spa or take a cruise. Enjoy.
Road Trip: Pick a destination, near or far from home and plan a trip.
Winery Tours: Experience the great food and wine that wine country has to offer. Go online or check with your travel agent for a tour.
Budget Travel: Travel does not have to break the bank. Decide how much money you have to spend and plan a trip within that budget.
Weekend getaways: My favourite, pick a weekend and do something different, get away from the normal humdrum and travel.
Romantic Travel: Travel always seem to put you in a mood for love. Travel to a destination where romance is guaranteed.

Summer's almost over!
Summer's almost over and what have you done? There is still time to enjoy a summer adventure or start a family tradition that you will look forward too each year. This does not have to be expensive.
Pack a lunch and have a picnic in your local park, relax and take time to enjoy nature, the birds, flowers, meet and greet neighbours you do not know.
Take the bike out off the garage and go for a ride.
Attend the street fairs in your area.
Take a good book to the park, sit under a shady tree and transport yourself into another world. The cheapest way to see the world....read.
Do enjoy the rest of summer.

Choosing a Destination
You have decided to travel. Whether you travel solo or with a companion(s) you first have to select a destination. Choosing a destination for you and your companion(s) is the most important part of planning your trip. Here are some suggestions:
Have everyone list their travel preferences and places they would like to visit.
Meet to discuss the lists and also consider the following before choosing a destination:
The travel budget for each person.
Travel time. (How long can each one stay?)
Time and money needed to obtain passports and visas. (If international travel)
Research your choice(s) online, browse travel websites, contact travel agencies, read the travel section of your local newspaper, and also talk to friends, co-workers, etc. who have visited your chosen destination.
Inquire about deals and packages from travel companies. Caution: Check for addition charges on deals and be sure to read the fine print.

Find a Travel Buddy
Website Travel Networking has become popular over the last few years. Some sites are free while others may require a small subscription fee. It takes a few minutes to set up a profile and if you are really serious about finding a travel buddy it’s recommended you join a few websites. To locate like-minded travelers specify your destination and what you would like to accomplish during your visit.
Five websites for your consideration:
1) TravelChums.com offers free subscriptions. See my last post Not Ready to Travel Solo for more information on this site.
2) Travelersmeet.com, this site also offers a free subscription and you can also meet travel buddies at home or abroad.
3) Couchsurfing.com is an interesting site. Their goal is to change the way we relate to the world through travel. As a member of this site you can host other members, or find a free place to stay. You must be a member of the site to participate. Couchsurfing is free to join but the website is supported by donations from their members. There are about 474,129 available couches in some 45,000 cities around the world.
4) Lonely Planet Classifieds On this site you can place or answer ads for travel companions. Also buy/sell travel gear. Worth browsing.
5) Travelpod.com One the web’s largest travel blogs is free to join and apart from meeting other members you can maintain a blog and upload pictures of your travels.
